Watching movies is one of the most uniting pastimes around the world. It is so popular that the U.S. and Canada box office earned over $8.6 billion in 2025. While there are certain types of movies, like superhero action flicks, that always draw in a crowd, there is no predicting audience response with full certainty.

With that being said, we turn our attention to the 5 of the biggest movie hits of 2025. This selection has something for everyone— horror, animated musical, superhero action, and sci-fi. While our top 5 doesn’t exclusively consist of the highest box office earners, it does include the movies that left the biggest impression on us.

Sinners

Sinners is the vampire horror flick by celebrated director Ryan Coogler that turned heads since its debut in April, 2025. The movie tells a story of two identical twins, Smoke and Stack, opening a juke joint in the 1930s in Mississippi, only to encounter vampires. Like with most Ryan Coogler movies, Sinners is packed with both action and social commentary.

The fantastic performances of Michael B. Jordan, Delroy Lindo, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Caton, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jack O’Connell, among others, made this movie shine. At the box office, this movie earned an impressive 368.3 million, working with a budget of $90-$100 million. In addition to that, it earned seven Golden Globe nominations and 17 Critics’ Choice Awards nominations.

KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters is the worldwide phenomenon that nobody saw coming in 2025, not even Sony and Netflix. This animated movie tells the story of three K-pop demon hunters who protect the world from demon attacks by uniting it through music. The fast-paced tale of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey battling evil, finding self-acceptance, and relying on friendship and loyalty is captivating.

The music in the movie, from the iconic ‘Golden’ and the heart-wrenching ‘What It Sounds Like’, also helped make this movie a 2025 hit. The woman behind the singing voice of Rumi, EJAE, is also the creative influence behind most of the hit songs in this movie. KPop Demon Hunters, with its compelling plot and exceptional music, was sent directly to streaming. Once Sony and Netflix realized they had a hit on their hands, they released it in theaters too. This movie shone with an incredible 93% Tomato and 99% Popcorn rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wicked: For Good

Wicked: For Good is the sequel to one of the most talked-about movies of the past ten years— Wicked. The sequel, with a worldwide box office profit of over $522 million, is less successful than its predecessor, which earned over $750 million. Even so, this movie earned a spot in our list of the top 5 movie hits of 2025.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande give impeccable performances as Elphaba and Glinda, as does Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero. The perfectly arranged and performed musical numbers, especially by the two leads is the movie’s brightest feature. The star-studded cast, which includes Colman Domingo, Jeff Goldblum, and Michelle Yeoh, also lives up to expectations. This movie may have received its rightful criticism regarding the pacing and coloring, but it is still a great watch.

Jurassic World: Rebirth

Jurassic World: Rebirth is yet another installment of the legendary franchise that usually has more hits than misses. Although we aren’t a fan of endless sequels and reboots, this movie has earned its rightful praise. The sci-fi action flick stars some of the biggest acting names of this generation, including Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.

As is typical for a Jurassic World movie, the plot relies on dinosaurs breaching containment and a team going into the exclusion zone. Although the idea is somewhat derivative, the writing of David Koepp and the direction of Gareth Edwards have made it a movie worth watching. This movie may have earned a milquetoast 50% rating from critics, but it earned 70% from movie-watchers.

Superman

The 2010s were marked by a before unseen zest for superhero movies. In this time, several titles earned well over $1 billion at the box office. But, after the Avengers: Endgame movie and the several DCU failures in a row, the zeal for superhero action flicks seemed to dwindle. It was almost as if people had gotten superhero movie fatigue. And then, James Gunn wrote and directed Superman.

He returned to the true Superman origins, telling a tale of truth, justice, and inclusion. He showed Clark Kent as an alien superhero and a regular guy at the same time. David Corensweat and Rachel Bronsahan shone as Clark and Lois, bringing affection, humor, and chemistry to their roles. We’d be remiss not to mention Nicolas Hoult’s dazzling performance as Lex Luthor, as well as Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. All told, this movie earned over $615 million worldwide, putting it on our list of 5 movie hits of 2025.

While we had a fantastic time watching and reviewing the movie hits of 2025, it is time to look to the future. 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for cinema worldwide. From the long awaited Supergirl movie to the Peaky Blinders movies, here are our top 5 most expected titles for 2026:
