6 New Year’s Cocktails for a Sparkling 2026

New Year’s Eve is the biggest party of the year, with people gathering at home and going out to celebrate it. Whether you join the trend of the majority of Americans, celebrating at home, or you go to a club, bar, or a friend’s house, NYE is always fun. It’s even more fun with the right New Year’s cocktails.

7 different cocktails lined up

The beauty of cocktails is that they include something for everybody. You can make them with vodka, gin, rum, tequila, and champagne. In this article, we review the 6 New Year’s cocktails that stood out to us. Some are inspired by Christmas festivities, and others by the potential of the new year.

Vodka Sunrise

What better way to ring in the new year than with a sunrise cocktail? You may be familiar with the more popular version of this cocktail, the tequila sunrise, but the vodka sunrise is our favourite. This cocktail is incredibly easy to make, even if you are a complete novice. All in all, you will need five ingredients, including the ice cubes.

  • ice cubes
  • 1-½ ounces vodka
  • 5 ounces orange juice
  • ½ ounce grenadine syrup
  • 1 orange slice for garnish

First, you need to fill your glass with ice cubes, before pouring the shot of vodka. The next step is to pour the orange juice— which brand you choose is up to you. Then, you need to pour a dash of grenadine syrup. This syrup is much denser than the vodka and orange juice, which makes it fall to the bottom of the glass, creating a sunrise-like appearance. To add a playful touch, you can put one orange slice on the glass as garnish.

Kir Royale

Kir Royale is one of the simplest and yet most impressive cocktails we’ve had the pleasure of preparing. You will only require three ingredients to make it, including the garnish. We had never made it before, but it turned out absolutely delicious, which is why we highly recommend it. These are its ingredients:

  • 1/2 ounce crème de cassis

  • 4-5 ounces dry champagne

  • Lemon peel

Pour the crème de cassis, a dark-red liqueur that is as tasty as it is gorgeous, into the champagne glass. Next, pour the champagne into the glass, and finally add the lemon peel as the garnish that gives it a special touch.

Old Cuban

We cannot discuss the best New Year’s cocktails without bringing up our favorite rum cocktail. The Old Cuban cocktail has been a party staple for years. It is equal parts festive and refreshing, thanks to the lovely combination of mint, rum, and champagne. Here are the ingredients you will need to make it:

  • 6 mint leaves

  • 1 ounce simple syrup

  • 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

  • 1 1/2 ounces aged rum

  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  • 2 ounces chilled champagne

  • Mint sprig garnish

Admittedly, this is one of the more complicated cocktails on our list, but if you follow these steps, you will knock it out of the park. First, you start by muddling the mint leaves with the syrup and the lime juice in your cocktail shaker. Then, you pour the rum, bitters, and ice cubes, and you shake until well-chilled. The next step is to double-strain it into a coupe glass. Finally, you pour the champagne and finish it off with a mint sprig garnish.

Margarita

Margarita is one of the most popular cocktails worldwide, with 2.82% of U.S. restaurants including it in their menus. While this is a 6-ingredient cocktail, it has one of the most straightforward recipes you will ever encounter. Here is what you need to make a margarita and the necessary steps.

  • 2 ounces blanco tequila

  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur

  • 1 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed

  • 1/2 ounce agave syrup

  • Lime slice garnish

The first and most important step is to pour the tequila, liqueur, lime juice, and syrup into a cocktail shaker with ice. Following that, you just need to shake the contents until well-chilled. Finally, you pour them into a margarita glass and add the lime slice garnish. Make sure the glass rim is already garnished with salt before pouring the cocktail in.

Negroni

Negroni is one of those cocktails that never goes out of fashion. Throughout its long history, this cocktail has had many variations and adjustments, all of them amazing. That being said, we will always be partial to the classic Negroni because it is delicious to drink, pretty to look at, and easy to make. Here are the four ingredients you will need:

  • 1 ounce gin

  • 1 ounce Campari

  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth

  • Orange peel garnish

To make Negroni, you simply need to pour the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth into a cocktail shaker that’s filled with ice. The next step is to shake the ingredients until the shaker is well-chilled. Then, you strain it into a rocks glass over a large ice cube and add an orange peel as garnish.

Manhattan

Manhattan is another one of those cocktails that has a dozen different variations. We believe that the classics are classic for a reason, so we opt for the OG Manhattan.
