Action movies make up 8 of the top 10 highest-grossing movies from the 2010s. These movies brought firefights, fast-paced battles, and endless camaraderie. While many of them have similar plots and often belong to the same series, each of them brings something unique to the table.

Every year in the 2010s delivered some serious movie hits, but which are the most memorable ones? There’s no accounting for taste, certainly, but in our opinion, these are the most memorable action movies from the 2010s.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Action movie sequels, especially ones that spend nearly 30 years in preproduction, almost never deliver on the hype. While we went into Mad Max: Fury Road with a grain of salt, it stunned us in the best way. This installment of the Mad Max franchise is a nearly 2-hour-long continuous chase.

Like all Mission Impossible movies, it tells the story of IMF (Impossible Missions Force) agent Ethan Hunt trying to save the world. Ethan and his team get implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin. With the IMF Secretary’s help, they learn that the villain is trying to start a U.S.-Russia nuclear war. From the legendary run on the outside of the Burj Khalifa to the chase through the sandstorm, this movie remains impossibly memorable.

Black Panther

There are very few action movies that have made a bigger impact than Black Panther in the history of cinema. Black Panther became the first black-led superhero movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Oscar-winner Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Black Panther earned around $1.350 billion at the global box office. The cast, which includes Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, and Letitia Wright, in addition to Boseman, set the standard for this movie.

But the magnificent screenwriting, dealing with motifs of duty, loyalty, African diaspora, fatherhood, colonialism, and tradition, put it over the top. Of course, there were also the stunning visual effects and the award-winning soundtrack. This movie tells the story of T’Challa, who inherits the Black Panther mantle, and Killmonger, who is a child abandoned by Wakanda. It tells the story of the battle between tradition and change, loyalty and power. All of these elements make it one of the most memorable action movies from the 2010s.
